P-47DThe 8th Annual Wings Over Big South Fork Air & Car Show was a big hit! The air show was full of fighter jets, war birds, stunt planes and the Remote Area Medical DC-3 and parachute team. Thanks to all of our residents and visitors for a great airshow! We had a great time during our annual airshow dinner at our welcome center and it was nice meeting with all of the new visitors. 5th Annual Louie Bluie Festival

Louie2011_FlyerJoin us for the 5th Annual Louie Bluie Festival Celebrating the Life of Howard “Louie Bluie” Armstrong. The festival will be held on October 1, 2011 from 10am – 7:45pm at the Cove Lake State Park in Caryville, TN.

This all-day family-fun festival features three stages of music including traditional Old-time, Blues, Gospel, Mountain Jazz, and Bluegrass, plus storytelling and theater and our Kid’s Fun Zone with lots of activities for the children.  High quality art and handmade crafts will be sold in the Craft Village, and a judged Art and Quilt Show will be in the Recreation Center.   Regional food vendors will be serving up a mouthwatering array of authentic Southern cooking, East Tennessee style.

The Louie Bluie Festival is named in honor of Howard “Louie Bluie” Armstrong (1909-2003), a LaFollette native and internationally acclaimed string band musician who grew up in LaFollette in the 1920s and became one of the nation’s finest string band musicians, as well as artist, storyteller, and writer.

Nashville hub for Health Care Industry

Red cross apple 1The Wall Street Journal reports that neighboring Nashville is a hub of the health care industry. The city boasts more than 250 health-care companies, and their numbers are rising. Last year Nashville launched an entrepreneur center to spur innovation, most of the firms were related to health care. State programs have also helped propel the industry with $180 million in public funds that has been made available to firms. Knoxville on top in green job growth

Knoxville SunsphereAccording to a new Brookings Institute study Knoxville ranked No. 1 in growth of green jobs among the top 100 metro areas nationally, with jobs growing by 14.6% annually between 2003 and 2010. Knoxville also added nearly 10,000 jobs in that time, ranking it 11th by number of jobs added. Click Here for the full article.

Nashville, TNForbes has named our neighbor Nashville, TN the third next Boom Town in the U.S. Its touted had being the countries music capital with low housing prices and pro-business environment. One major advantage of Nashville is its mild climate with an annual average temp of 58.9 degrees. 2011 AirVenture at Oshkosh!

Airventure 2011Everyone at Big South Fork Airpark had a great time at AirVenture in Oshkosh 2011! We enjoyed meeting everyone at the airshow that wanted to learn more about our beautiful airpark. We also ran into lots of old friends and airpark residents. This years show was great for us. We were amazed with the amount of demand there was for airpark property.
